Individual Assignment
A ‘Mini Portfolio’

The pieces to include in your mini-portfolio must total a minimum of 3 points.

Compulsory items:
 One press release (1 point)
 Reflective statement(s) (0 points)

One or two items from the following list:
 Feature article (2 points)
 Internal newsletter (1 point)
 Short internal news sheet – minimum 2 sides (2 points)
 Direct mail letter (1 point)
 Short copy for a printed advertisement (1 point)
 Script for a short speech (2 points)
 Editing the text (content and format) of an existing piece for printing purposes (1 point)
 Re-writing a short existing piece for a different audience or medium – include the original (1 point)

You are requested to use a folder no larger than standard A4 size.  Otherwise, you have complete freedom to choose your topics and design for the mini-portfolio.  It is suggested you relate the various items (for example, you might to have two or three items on the same news topic or from one campaign with each piece aimed at a different public).
IMPORTANT: Your reflective statement must include: the target public for the item, how you suggest you can evaluate the item’s effectiveness, any difficulties and positive points you might have had, what have you learnt from compiling the piece, and how ‘will you do it better next time’.  You must add one reflective statement with each piece.  It is crucial you think about your reflective statement carefully since it is a testimony of the quality of your learning experience AND an important element for marking your piece!

The suggested total word count is 3000 words.  You need to balance the length of each piece accordingly.  However, depending on the type of pieces you choose you might find that you need to exceed this total or that you fall short of it.  Provided the excess or shortfall is within reason, it will be accepted.
Hand-in date: 11th August 2010 in the Undergraduate Office before 4.00 pm. See the module handbook for hand-in requirements (paper copy and Turnitin version).
Plagiarism: please note that any piece containing plagiarised material will be referred to the Unfair Means Panel of the School.  Plagiarism can seriously compromise your degree.
