Management Accounting
The origins of British Management Accounting are in the great industries of the Industrial Revolution. In fact one of the earliest quotes recognising the existence of this branch of Accounting is attributed to 代写留学生作业one of the founders of the pottery industry in Stoke on Trent:

Many of the techniques of management accounting are manufacturing based, and indeed many of the examples in your course textbook are from manufacturing. However in the modern era, management accounting can be found in all areas of the economy.

Question:
You are to review the historical development of management accounting, showing, in particular, the growth of its usage in the non-manufacturing sector. Selecting two companies as case studies, you are to critically evaluate the value of management accounting to modern non-manufacturing organisations.

 

The following companies are our Lecture suggested to us:


Non-manufacturing sector refers to a range of non-smoking services sectors, for example:
(1) Banks and financial institutions, e.g. Llyod’s Bank, HSBC London, Barclays Bank
(2) Insurance companies, Prudential Insurance Co., Ltd.
(3) Professional service companies, e.g. Audit firm (Big four: KPMG, PwC, EY, Deloitte), Tax advisory firm, Management Consultancy firm (Andersen Consulting, Boston Consulting, etc.), Lawyers’ firm (Clifford Chance, Baker McKenzie, etc.), Surveyors’ firm, Architects’ firm, etc.
(4) Non-profit making social/community/charity organisations, e.g. Red Cross, OBIX, etc.
(5) Hospitals and clinics
(6) Educational institutions (University of Bedfordshire, Oxford University, etc.)
(7) Educational services organisations (e.g. Kaplan)

(9) Airline companies, e.g. British Airway, Cathay Pacific, etc.

(12) Internet services companies (e.g. yahoo, google, Microsoft Network, etc.)
(13) Entertainment industries (e.g. Disneyland, Universal Studios, Sands Casinos, Las Vegas, etc.)

Suggestion to select companies:

(2) Choose the companies/firms/organisations of which you are familiar and/or have interest -à write more confidently and be clear what you are writing
(3) Sources of information MUST be stated in your report
(4) Sources of information: internet pages of the companies, Prospectus and annual reports to their investors/shareholders from the public libraries, available public information from the internet pages of the government organisations, etc.
