1. ASSIGNMENT

Scenario
The growth of international business in the past decade has been dramatic .with an increasing transnational corporations (TNCs)- multinational corporations (MNCs), which are able effective use and allocate global resource, so they could reach the maximum of profit. The assignment is designed to give you the opportunity to research the international environment faced by the TNCs and the impact of global environment on the TNCs and their stakeholders.


2. REQUIREMENTS

For this assignment, there are two tasks. Both of these two tasks are individual work.

Task1 Presentation (Cover outcomes: 1.1 1.2 1.3)
Choose one of Fortune Global 500 companies in 2010,and make a research on the MNC. Imagine that you are the CEO of the MNC: write the text of the presentation in powerpoint, to introduce the history,the products, service and status quo of the company. The introduction should include the following aspects:
 The mission, key objectives and responsibilities identification.
 The influence of stakeholders of the MNC.
 The strategies employed to meet the responsibilities of the MNC and the objectives of three stakeholders.


Task 2 Report on Business Environment Analysis (Cover outcomes 2.1 2.2 2.3)
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is one of the industry leaders Headquartered in the UK and with operations based in the US, GSK with an estimated seven per cent of the world's pharmaceutical market. Since the 1980s, GSK has actively invested in China. GSK is one of the first foreign pharmaceutical companies to establish successful joint ventures in China. To date, GSK has established five companies with a total registered capital of US$230 million. Currently, GSK China has offices in twenty-eight major cities (including Hong Kong) and five legal entities encompassing four manufacturing facilities, two joint ventures and near 3000 employees nationwide.and become one of the largest multinational pharmaceutical companies in China.

The report should take the followings into account:
 Why does GSK actively invested in China?
How to effective use and allocate the resources in China and in the UK.
The government policy of China and UK. What preferential policies provided by Chinese government attract GSK’s investment?
The global economy trend
 The impact of macroeconomic policy, social welfare and industrial policy in China on GSK and its stakeholders.
Fiscal and monetary policy  (eg: Taxation, Exchange rate, interest rate, control over bank lending and credit…) 
Incentive foreign policies
Social policy (eg: employment law, Environmental policy, Retirement Pension, Sickness, Maternity allowance…)
Industrial policy (eg: free trade, grants, regulation, investment in physical and human capital, improvements to infrastructure, reductions in non- wage employment costs…)
 The impact of global factors on GSK and its stakeholders
Global marketplace
Competitive environment

The report should be no longer than 1, 500 words excluding the appendices, tables, figures, references. Clear headings and sub-headings should break up the report into distinct but logically related sections. Properly used bullet points, diagrams and graphs enhance the readability of your report. Make sure the report represents a coherent argument from start to finish and include the table of contents and references.

The assignment must be typed on A4 papers (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 font, 1 inch margin).

Submission
Assignment is to be handed in to the tutor on Nov 24th, 2010. Please note that for late submission, assignment will be downgraded. It should include:
