Assignment 2 Individual Portfolio
The assignment task is to write a 2500 word report in two parts which will encompass research, evaluation, presentation and reflection. This is desk based research and should be submitted as a formal business report. The report should consist of the following:
1. Evaluate an example of software used by a service industry such as travel or banking to facilitate the interface between external and internal environments.
Evaluate the software in terms of benefit to the organisation, where does it fit with other information systems, how is it used and what functionality does it offer the manager?
You should demonstrate research into a specific software solution as used in a business environment e.g. CRM, ERP, DSS. Reference your sources in Harvard format and demonstrate evaluation and analysis of examples

2. The Future of Information Systems: Consider the impact of emerging technologies on the Organisation. This part of the report is a reflective piece of work that encompasses strategic planning and identifies what impact Cloud Computing, Utility Computing, Web 3.0 and other emerging technologies could have on businesses in the next 5 years. You should demonstrate research into the new technologies, reference your sources in Harvard format and demonstrate evaluation and analysis of examples.

Read the Assignment Brief carefully and ask the course team for clarification of anything that is not clear. The broader topics will be covered during the module and your report work will support your group project later in the year. During the week of submission you will be expected to present to the class, one aspect of your report and to reflect on your developing knowledge. Presentations should be no longer than 3 minutes.

The assignment is worth 40% of the final module grade.

i) Evaluate the future impact of IT on MIS and explain how this might affect the organisation.
k) Manage an independent study project under appropriate supervision.
Proposals should be submitted to through Turnitin on NILE in the INS2020 site with an added cover sheet (also available in NILE) by midnight UK time Friday 11th February. Your work will be available to you via NILE with comments and grades during the week commencing 7th March 2011.
